‘I agree’ – Ally McCoist responds to angry Leeds United fan on talkSPORT
Ally McCoist has said that he agrees with an angry Leeds United fan who got in touch with talkSPORT to say the 19/20 season must be finished.
The fan phoned into the Breakfast show (talkSPORT, Tuesday, 7am) to say that Leeds had earned the right to play in the Premier League next season and that the season couldn’t be voided.
Leeds are currently top of the Championship and seven points clear of Fulham in third with nine games to play.
“I agree with him in the respect that every opportunity has to be taken to complete the season,” said McCoist.
“But what I’m against is calling it a day and going with the results as they are. Liverpool have been a joy this season but they can’t be given the title.
“And you can’t punish people for something that hasn’t happened. How can you send someone down when they haven’t been relegated?
“If there is any way possible to finish the season they must do that.
“Harry Kane has disagreed. He thinks there should be a point where enough is enough and the season is voided.
“I think if there is an opportunity, that’s the avenue that should be explored. That said, I’m really against games being played behind closed doors.”
Everyone’s got an opinion on how the 19/20 season should finish.
The Premier League is exploring its own avenues and they don’t necessarily take the EFL into account.
Some people are happy for game to be played behind closed doors. Others, like McCoist, think that’s a non-runner.
We’re with the Leeds fan and Angus Kinnear here, unsurprisingly. The 19/20 season needs to be finished as soon as possible.
If that means playing behind closed doors then that’s unfortunate but much more preferable to just voiding the season.
How can you start a new season when there are just nine games left of the previous campaign?
