Reported Leeds United target Rodrigo de Paul is unmatched in Europe when it comes to his style of play and coverage of the pitch, according to football data expert Dan Altman.
The 26-year-old Argentine has emerged as a target for the Whites in recent days, with a recent report suggesting that he has already agreed personal terms with the club.
De Paul currently plies his trade for Serie A side Udinese, and has been capped 17 times by his country.
And Altman, who founded football analytics platform Smarterscout, believes he could make a major impact in the Premier League.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: “There aren’t any central midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues who can match Rodrigo de Paul’s style of play and his pitch coverage.
“He’s most active in the right channel, crossing midfield, but he can pop up almost anywhere. He’s an avid defender, and his attacking contribution is huge at a Premier League standard.
“De Paul was involved in about two thirds of Udinese’s most effective attacks, and three-quarters of their goals while on the pitch.
“He’s Argentine and has enormous output on both sides of the ball, so he seems like a great fit for Bielsa’s Leeds.”
If you weren’t convinced by de Paul before, you must be now after reading Altman’s assessment of the player.
We all know how highly Marcelo Bielsa values versatility, and for a central midfielder, de Paul has it in abundance.
As per Transfermarkt, the South American can play anywhere in midfield, or in a more advanced role if it is required of him.
Factor in the stats that Altman is sharing here – 66% involvement in Udinese’s dangerous attacks, 75% involvement in his side’s goals while he’s been on the pitch over the past season – and he looks like a real handful.
The meticulous nature of Leeds’ scouting network will mean that they know the player inside out already, but for us fans, this is a player who should be a joy to discover if and when he makes the move to Elland Road.
