Huddersfield Town star Michal Helik shares Leeds United promotion verdict in unpopular admission

Leeds United will make an immediate return to the Premier League and win automatic promotion this season, according to Huddersfield Town star Michal Helik.

The Whites dropped points for the first time in 2024 against the Terriers on Saturday (2 March) as they drew 1-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium with Patrick Bamford’s second-half strike cancelling out Helik’s opening goal.

Daniel Farke’s side slipped out of the automatic promotion places with the draw, but Helik has admitted he still expects Leeds to finish in the top two this season, even if it won’t “be popular” in Huddersfield.

As quoted in the print edition of Mirror Football (4 March, page 13) he said: “Leeds have so much quality in their squad and honestly I think they will go up directly. Maybe it will not be popular but the quality they have in the squad is really good.

“If they perform until the end of the season as they have been doing then they should do it. There are a lot of good attacks in our league, Leeds have one of them.”

Will Leeds United win automatic promotion to the Premier League this season?

Most supporters and pundits have admitted in recent weeks that they expect Leeds United to make an immediate return to the Premier League this term, but Saturday’s draw would have put a few doubts among fans.

But on another day, the Whites could have quite easily claimed all three points had Crysencio Summerville’s second-half effort curled a little bit further to nestle into the far corner or had Bamford managed a second goal.

Michal Helik has made a new Leeds United prediction.

While Leeds will have been disappointed to have dropped points, especially against 10 men, they are still within touching distance of both Ipswich Town and Leicester City and it will only take a couple of big results to sway proceedings.

Hopefully, Farke’s side can get back to winning ways quickly against Stoke City on Tuesday (5 March) and take a step closer to matching Helik’s prediction, but Leeds won’t want to drop points in consecutive matches.
