Huddersfield star ‘surprised’ by what he saw happen with player at Leeds earlier in season

Huddersfield loan star Emile Smith Rowe has admitted it “surprised” him that Eddie Nketiah failed to get many starts during his time at Leeds United.

Nketiah, 20, returned to Arsenal in January after starting just two Championship fixtures in his loan at Elland Road.

Both of those starts came in the days building up to Arsenal’s decision to terminate the temporary agreement they struck with Leeds in the summer.

Smith Rowe is on loan at Huddersfield from Arsenal so knows Nketiah well but he’s having a completely different kind of time in Yorkshire than the England Under-21 striker after starting seven of the Terriers’ last nine league fixtures.

Nketiah has been in good form since returning to Arsenal, scoring in his last two games and Smith Rowe reckons he probably should have had more opportunities at Leeds than he did.

“I was pretty surprised to see that he wasn’t starting as many games as he wanted to,” Smith Rowe told Football League World.

“Everyone knows how good Eddie is and even when he wasn’t starting he was coming on, scoring, and showing what he can do.

“I’m happy that he’s come back to Arsenal and he’s scoring goals.”

It’s pointless looking at Nketiah’s form now for Arsenal.

Although he’s scored two goals and it’s good to see him doing well, he just didn’t fit the style of play at Leeds.

Marcelo Bielsa shouldn’t have really signed Nketiah but at the end of the day, the young striker still scored some big goals for the Whites and he’ll always be remembered for that if the club wins promotion.
