Huddersfield could now accept £8million for Leeds target Lewis O’Brien
Crystal Palace could be about to do Leeds United a favour in their pursuit of Lewis O’Brien after tabling a bid for Will Hughes, according to The Sun.
The Eagles are poised to agree a £10million deal with Watford after going in with £7million plus extras for the 26-year-old, and their decision to opt for Hughes ahead of O’Brien could force the hands of Huddersfield Town.
Leeds want the 22-year-old English midfielder, and the Terriers may now take less for him, with the Elland Road outfit likely to seal a deal with an offer of £5million, with an extra £3million in add-ons.
Huge boost
With Palace seemingly withdrawing from the race to sign O’Brien and our only competition for the midfielder gone, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been handed a huge boost.
Clearly, the Argentine would love to strengthen his squad in the middle of the park, and the Huddersfield star fits the profile he wants at Elland Road.
Bielsa admitted Leeds are only likely to make additional signings this summer if a deal is affordable for the club, and parting with an initial £5million for a player capable of improving the team should not be a problem.
Kalvin Phillips returned to the starting line-up for the clash against Everton yesterday, but we do not expect him to be available for every game.
Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan knows exactly what his Whites counterpart wants in a midfielder having worked with him at Yorkshire, and both of them would have agreed that O’Brien has everything it takes to succeed at Elland Road.
It is now up to the club to make their move after Palace’s decision, and we expect things to be sorted out soon.
