Hertha want to get rid of Matheus Cunha, Leeds interested

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha all summer.

The players’ agent recently admitted that any move looks unlikely to Elland Road, but a new twist has already emerged.

BILD has been on the story for the past couple of months, and now claim that the Germans could “get rid” of Cunha.

New director of football Fredi Bobic is taking stock of his new side, and looks likely to wield his axe on many of his players.

Cunha and Dodi Lukebakio were the two top scorers last season, but both could leave before the start of the next edition of the Bundesliga.

It is even suggested that Cunha may not even return to Berlin ahead of next season for pre-season training.

The Brazilian is currently away with the national side ahead of the Olympics in Tokyo, and that is surely going to affect any transfer plans.

Request.

There were reports that Marcelo Bielsa had demanded the signing, but those were recently shut down by local media.

It looks very unlikely that a move to Elland Road will happen this summer, but all updates lead to Cunha being available for a move.

The big sticking point is clearly the price, and Leeds won’t want to pay just over £30million for an unproven player in the Premier League.

Cunha hasn’t exactly set the Bundesliga alight during his career either, and that is a lot of money for a player who hasn’t at least done it in another big league.

Bielsa is smart, and even if he likes Cunha, he knows that Berlin may be rising their demands far too high for clubs to steal one of their stronger players.
