Henry Winter shares Patrick Bamford story and relives ‘viral’ Leeds footage with Marcelo Bielsa
Patrick Bamford’s time at Leeds United has finally come to an end.
The striker had been at Elland Road since 2018, and helped the Peacocks win promotion to the Premier League twice.
However, after Daniel Farke confirmed that Bamford was no longer in Leeds’ plans this season, the 31-year-old has now been released, after the two parties reached a mutual agreement.
Now, with plenty of discussion taking place about the former England international’s West Yorkshire career, Henry Winter has shared a fond story about the striker.

Henry Winter: Patrick Bamford went out of his way to help people
Now that Bamford has left Leeds United, it has not taken long for people to reminisce about the 31-year-old’s time at Leeds United.
Over the years, there were plenty of players and coaches who were quick to praise the striker when the opportunity arose.
After his exit was announced, Liam Cooper and Pablo Hernandez sent emotional messages to Bamford via Instagram, highlighting the impact the 31-year-old had on their lives.
- Bamford joined Leeds from Middlesbrough in 2018
- The striker played 205 times for Leeds scoring 60 goals
- His best campaign came in the 2020/21 season where he netted 17 Premier League goals
Now, journalist Winter has praised the striker’s personality on his Substack on 29 August, recalling his first encounter with the 31-year-old back in 2015.
He said: “I was at Crystal Palace’s training ground in 2015, looking for someone, and Bamford went out of his way to help.
“We’d never met before, I was just a lost visitor to him, yet he stopped and gave me directions.
“He sums up that old life mantra of parents to offspring of ‘work hard and be nice to people’.”
On top of this, Winter also took to X on 29 August, recalling how the striker’s volleying technique once got Marcelo Bielsa to run across the training pitch to embrace Bamford, with the footage going viral.
Patrick Bamford is a modern Leeds legend
Over the years, there have been few players who have had a bigger impact than Bamford at Leeds.
The striker proved to be the key to the West Yorkshire side’s stay in the Premier League, and his 17-goal season in the top-flight won’t be forgotten in a long time.
Hopefully, Bamford can find a new club quickly, with the MLS being a potential destination.
Nevertheless, wherever he ends up, there is no doubt that Bamford is a modern Leeds United legend.
