Helder Costa playing for Leeds Under-23s on Monday

Carlos Corberan has named a very strong side for the Under-23s’ first game of the season against Millwall at Thorp Arch.

The side features a number of first-team players, with new goalkeeper signing Illan Meslier getting his first taste of action.

Ezgjan Alioski, Alfie McCalmont, Helder Costa, Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke also start, with Gaetano Berardi, Mateusz Bogusz and Eddie Nkeitah on the bench.

You’ve got to feel sorry for the Millwall side who will be looking at the team sheet and wondering what’s going on. You could put out a fairly decent senior starting XI from the 16 players named in the matchday squad and you have to think that it will see Corberan’s side come away with a win from the game this afternoon.

One fan summed it up brilliantly when he tweeted: “This team should be illegal”.

The team news was announced on the official Leeds Twitter page on Monday lunchtime, with Leeds’ £13.5m signing taking centre stage.

Costa might be forgiven for wondering what’s going on too and he’s yet to start in the Championship. He’ll need to put in a shift this afternoon if he wants to stand any chance of breaking into the side.

The game kicks off at 1pm and you can watch the game live on the official Leeds United app.
