Helder Costa could have Mateusz Klich-like redemption at Leeds United under Jesse Marsch - Graham Smyth

Leeds United winger Helder Costa could have a Mateusz Klich-like redemption under Jesse Marsch, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist insisted that the Valencia loanee could return to Elland Road and burst onto the scene just like the Polish international did.

If that wasn’t the case, Smyth admitted that there would be plenty of options for a permanent summer exit.

Writing in his latest column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Smyth shared that anything is possible for the winger.

“Fellow winger Helder Costa could be another who returns to train in front of the American, having spent the season on loan at Valencia and played some part in the mid-table side’s journey to the Copa del Rey final.

“If Costa was to show Marsch he could play a part in the Premier League he would follow in the footsteps of Mateusz Klich, who returned from a loan spell to change Bielsa’s mind over his usefulness and prove that he should remain at Leeds.

“As part of the Gestifute agency stable, however, other options will undoubtedly present themselves to Costa should all parties decide a permanent move away from Leeds is the best outcome.”

Unlikely.

We certainly don’t see this one happening.

Of course, Klich has been superb since he came into the side four years ago, but even that only happened due to extreme circumstances.

Marcelo Bielsa was going through an injury crisis with the likes of Adam Forshaw missing, and Klich was his only usable midfield option.

The Polish maestro took his chance with both hands, but we haven’t seen that from Costa since he arrived from Wolves.

It looks best for him and the club if a permanent exit can be found, with Costa getting playing time and Leeds bringing back some of the money spent on him.

Should Raphinha leave though, the door may open for Costa to come in, we just hope that the money is recycled into a better option.

A big summer is ahead for everyone.
