‘He’d be unreal’, ‘Christ’: Some Leeds fans react after Phil Hay delivers double transfer update

There are plenty of Leeds United fans who would love to see Brentford striker Ollie Watkins and winger Said Benrahma sign for them this summer.

In a double Bees transfer update, Athletic journalist Phil Hay said that Leeds are “confident” they can sign Benrahma for less than £20m if Brentford lose in the play-off final tonight.

And he claimed that Leeds also rate Watkins for possessing similar qualities to Patrick Bamford as they look for another striker to take into the Premier League.

That’s got plenty of Leeds supporters excited, with one saying that Watkins “would be unreal in our team”.

Another said, “Benrahma for under £20m? Christ, I think everyone would have a bit of that.”

Plenty of other Leeds fans have realised how big this makes the play-off final on Tuesday.

If the Bees go up then it would make it much harder, if not impossible, to prise Brentford’s best players out from under Thomas Frank.

It means that Leeds supporters are all ready to support Fulham for the night, despite former hero Pontus Jansson leading the Bees defence.

One fan said it could be a mistake having Brentford players as summer targets when they could still go up, but we disagree.

The transfer window has only just opened up and Leeds will still have plenty of time to switch if Brentford overcome Fulham at Wembley on Tuesday.

Leeds are said to be after the best of the Championship and these two are right up there – both rightly made the WhoScored team of the season, with only Luke Ayling representing the champions.

We’ll be watching tonight’s game with added interest now. And so will these Leeds fans…
