'He needs Leeds', 'Love this' - These Whites fans loving what Guardiola has said

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made no secret of his admiration of Marcelo Bielsa, and Leeds fans loved hearing his latest anecdote about the Argentine.

Guardiola reflected on the period when he first got into management and said that the Leeds boss played a pivotal role for him.

In an interview with DAZN, Guardiola said, “I will never be able to thank Marcelo for how he has treated me, because I was nobody at that time.

“Bielsa spoke to me about the media and then I was the one who asked him if we complain so much about this world of football that it won’t let us live, I asked him, ‘Marcelo, why don’t you train in an academy? A more amateur world, and you forget about this professional world, the media, the criticism, high-level players’.

“And it was he who answered me: ‘I need this blood. I need this’.”

It is clear Bielsa has a great passion for the game, we don’t need Guardiola to tell us that.

But his nurturing side is not often evident on the touchline, and it is great to gain insight into how he treats individuals who are at the beginning of their careers.

In Pep’s case it was management, but so many Leeds players have Bielsa to thank for their careers hitting the heights, like Kalvin Phillips.

Bielsa’s personal touch is key to his management.

It is his knowledge and the respect he commands that helps him make such big demands of his players day in day out in training, and why he rarely receives any backlash.

We are certainly lucky to have him, and we hope he sticks with us and Andrea Radrizzani on the journey back to the top of the Premier League and to European football.

Here is how Leeds fans have been reacting to Guardiola’s comments…
