Hay: Tottenham likely to recall Clarke in January

Athletic journalist Phil Hay has said he expects Jack Clarke to be recalled by Tottenham in January.

Clarke was sold to Tottenham over the summer for a fee of £10m but loaned back to Leeds for the season.

However, a combination of poor form and Leeds having six loanees (with a Championship squad limit of five) has meant that Clarke has been dropped from the matchday squads entirely.

He was on the bench for the first two games of the season but hasn’t been in the squad for the past five games and with Leeds out of the EFL Cup, his game-time in the near future looks really limited.

Clarke did play in the 6-0 win by the Leeds Under-23 side against Watford on Monday but it seems unlikely Tottenham will be happy with their attacker just playing for the second string.

One Leeds fan asked Hay whether he thought Clarke would be recalled in January and Hay replied saying, “At this rate, yes”.

Clarke won’t be much of a miss given that he hasn’t been getting in the squad, but it’s a shame to see him drop so far down the pecking order after such a bright patch last season before getting ill.

£10m now seems like really good business for the young attacker who might have to go and prove himself on another loan in the second half of the season.
