Hasenhuttl comments on Adams to Leeds move after third striker offer rejected
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has re-iterated that striker Che Adams is going nowhere after a £20m offer from Leeds United was rejected.
After being asked about Adams on Thursday, BBC journalist Adam Blackmore quoted him as saying, “We don’t need to sell anyone. Nobody has knocked on my door asking to leave. Atmosphere is great in the squad and recent success has been about the squad not the 11.”
Blackmore tweeted the words from Hasenhuttl on Thursday lunchtime.
There’s just over a week now and Leeds might have to finally give up on Adams joining.
It was reported by BBC journalist Adam Pope yesterday that Southampton had rejected a third offer from Leeds on Wednesday – an initial loan deal that included an option to buy for £20m.
Offers get rejected all the time in the transfer window and there is obviously wriggle room in this.
The deal was reported as having an option to buy built-in rather than an obligation and there’s still time for Southampton to sign a new attacker.
However, after getting encouraging words from Southampton earlier in the window, this one really does look dead now – especially as Hasenhuttl has confirmed that Adams hasn’t asked to leave.
It seems like Leeds are the victims of a dramatic turnaround in form for Southampton.
Hasenhuttl’s side have won three and drawn one of their last five games and are now just three points off Man United in fifth.
Adams has been playing for Hasenhuttl, albeit off the bench, and it seems highly unlikely that the club would sell Adams against their manager’s wishes.
