Harvey Elliot sends message to Pascal Struijk after Leeds United injury update

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliot has sent a three-word social media message to Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk after his injury update.

Manager Daniel Farke confirmed (9 November) that Struijk would miss the clash against Plymouth on Saturday (11 November) as he undergoes surgery for a hernia [Phil Hay, 9 November], with the hope being that he will be available for selection after the international break.

The Dutchman took to his Instagram account (10 November) to send a message to Leeds United fans announcing his decision to undergo surgery for which Liverpool gem Elliot sent a three-word message to encourage him on his recovery.

Elliot wrote: “Speedy recovery mate.”

Speedy recovery indeed

Leeds United fans could be well forgiven for arguing that Struijk’s surgery fell at the wrong time given his tremendous form and the Whites resurgence up the league table in recent weeks.

However, given it’s a recurring niggle that’s troubled the Dutchman over the past few months, he was certainly well within his rights to address the issue for good which will stand him in good stead for the rest of his career.

The international break is coming up this week so it’s two weeks out of the way where they won’t miss him too crucially.

No club will want a player as good as Struijk to be a constant injury burden on them and the Elland Road centre-back is destroying those doubts for good with this decision.

How Farke plans to replace him in the coming weeks will certainly be intriguing to see but fans will be hoping Struijk’s recovery isn’t too long and he’s back firing on all levels again when he returns.

Given the nature at which he is addressing the decision, he could well return an even better player which is brilliant news all around for the rest of the campaign for Leeds United.
