Harry Kewell amazed by Daniel Farke sack news at Leeds United

Daniel Farke’s summer at Leeds United has not been plain sailing so far.

Although the German gained promotion to the Premier League with Leeds as champions, there have been plenty of questions posed over his future since.

This is because of his previous struggles with Norwich City in the top flight, although the 49ers Enterprises have stood by him to take them forward, for now.

The top flight will be no easy task, though, and Harry Kewell admits he has been left amazed by what’s been coming out of Elland Road so far this summer.

Kewell casts verdict on Farke at Leeds

Leeds may have achieved promotion back to the top, but that is only half the battle at Elland Road.

The 49ers are keen to show Farke the financial support necessary to stay in the Premier League, but with all three promoted sides coming straight back down again, Leeds know how difficult that is.

There was plenty of speculation surrounding Farke’s future already, with suggestions that someone with more proven Premier League experience may be a safer route.

The demands of the top flight are high and, if the West Yorkshire outfit don’t get off to a strong start, Farke could well be pushed out the door.

When Andy Goldstein was discussing the pressure that would be on Farke in the Premier League (12 June, 4:22 pm), Kewell started shaking his head.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “It just amazes me, like amazes me, how people just sit there and they don’t allow. Look, I know he’s been unlucky on one or two, but he’s got a proper team, he’s got a proper club, just give him the opportunity.

“Like, he can do it, he’s proven it. I know people say, ‘Oh, he can’t do it in the Premier League’ and all that, but I just don’t understand, I really don’t.

“I don’t even get the urge of sacking, I just don’t get it.”

49ers must support Farke

Farke has done an excellent job at Leeds, and it seems fair that he has held on to his job, being allowed to shape his side ready for the top flight.

Leeds had a brilliant season in the Championship.

However, whether right or not, the demands of the Premier League do mean that the boss will be under heaps of pressure next season should his side get off to a slow start.

Having stuck beside him, the 49ers must show the necessary financial support to strengthen the side in the summer transfer window, regardless of PSR constraints.

If the West Yorkshire outfit failed to perform, the owners would know that the issues could well be attributed to the manager rather than those wearing the shirt.
