Handanovic asks why Sarri didn’t emulate Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa was used as a reference point after Lazio’s 3-1 win over Inter Milan at the weekend.

The hosts came from a goal down to run out winners, but the visitors were not pleased to see Felipe Anderson score his side’s second goal with Federico Dimarco down injured.

Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was furious after the game, asking Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri why his players did not stop in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play, according to Calciomercato.

The manager attempted to defend himself, but the goalie told him: “You could have done like Bielsa, do you remember Bielsa?”.

Wonderful

Back in April 2019, the Leeds boss ordered his side to allow Aston Villa equalise without anyone challenging them after Mateusz Klich put his side ahead with Jonathan Kodjia down injured.

The game ended 1-1, with the result putting the second automatic promotion spot mathematically out of their reach.

Leeds were awarded the 2019 FIFA Fair Play Award as a result, and many could not believe the Argentine’s incredible sportsmanship despite what was at stake.

Lazio did not get the memo, though, but Inter expected more from them.

Not many can do like Bielsa, and Sarri definitely was not going to sacrifice three points in the name of fair play.

Many did not realise how huge of a sacrifice the call was back then, and just maybe Inter’s defeat will make people know how exceptional Leeds’ act was.
