Gustavo Hamer to Leeds United transfer prediction made as ‘maquee’ development emerges

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes Leeds United will be battling with a host of clubs for Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

Football League World reported on 8 June that Leeds are plotting a “very ambitious” move for the Brazilian-born 26-year-old. It’s believed he would be a “marquee” signing.

Robinson believes he’s a realistic target but insisted it will be a “difficult” market to battle through in order to sign the midfielder.

“He’s a realistic target but I think Leeds will be at the table with a lot of other clubs. With a year left on his contract – after an excellent season – Coventry will be reluctant to sell to a competitor,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeeds News.

“They got themselves in the playoffs and they won’t be wanting to sell to a direct rival. It will be a difficult market.”

Hamer featured 41 times for the Sky Blues during the 2022/23 season, scoring nine goals and managing 11 assists for Mark Robins’ side.

He’s contracted to Coventry until next summer which means a summer transfer could well be in the pipeline to avoid losing him for nothing next season.

Leeds have also been linked with Hamer’s teammate Viktor Gyokeres, who is also out of contract in the summer of 2024.

In other Leeds United news, one big-name manager is now in pole position to fill the vacant dugout at Elland Road.
