Graham Smyth: Valentin Castellanos is not top target for Leeds United
Graham Smyth has reported that Taty Castellanos is not a top target for Leeds United this summer.
According to 90 Min (3 June), New York City FC’s Castellanos could be on his way to Leeds, while the likes of West Ham, Everton and Newcastle could be interested as well.
The 23-year-old Argentine is one of the hottest properties in Major League Soccer, but the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist (7 June) appears to have refuted this claim.
Smyth wrote on YEP: “Reports have linked Leeds with Taty Castellanos, New York City’s Argentine forward, but the YEP understands he is not currently on the list of top targets.”
Need more players
The Whites have already secured the signing of Brendan Aaronson, and his Red Bull Salzburg teammate Rasmus Kristensen looks to be set to follow as well.
Bolstering the forward department is key, and at some point in the transfer window, Leeds need to consider signing someone who can deliver 15-20 goals a season.
Patrick Bamford has almost missed the entire campaign with various injuries at different points in time, and there’s no time frame been set about when he can return.
Leeds are heavily reliant on Bamford but the last season clearly indicated that the club need another forward in their ranks.
Joe Gelhardt will surely feature more regularly, but Castellanos is the player who should be looked at. It seems Marsch may have other plans.
The Whites hierarchy are appearing to keep full faith in Marsch. It appears that he would have been a really good signing for the club, but it seems, he is not even a priority for the club.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been told to bomb this big-money player out of Elland Road by terminating his contract.
