Graham Smyth shares what Meslier did at FT of Leeds United draw v Hull
Illan Meslier was spotted heading straight down the tunnel after Leeds United dropped two points against Hull City on Saturday before having a change of heart, Graham Smyth has shared.
Leeds had a blip at the MKM Stadium in their race to promotion on 4 January with two points dropped away to Hull in an enthralling 3-3 draw.
The Whites held a 3-1 lead until the latter stages of the game with a series of howlers from Meslier ultimately costing his side the three points, which he was seemingly aware of in the immediate aftermath of the game.
Smyth, via the Yorkshire Evening Post (5 January), wrote: “Meslier trudging off and appearing to head straight for the tunnel before a change of heart saw him go with his team-mates towards the away end. His body language as he then went down the tunnel said it all.”
Leeds United will lose out on promotion with Meslier inclusion
It seems like this is a debate every single week with a new howler to discuss after each and every game but the clash against Hull was unforgivable for the Frenchman.
Meslier was caught in no man’s land for the first goal, flapped at a ball above his head for the second while failing to clear a cross for the third and it was comfortably his worst performance in a Leeds shirt.
It’s hard to count how many errors he has made this season that have led to a goal but they keep unfathomably racking up and the longer it continues, the more damage he will do to the Whites’ promotion hopes.

A change is needed and the immediate one would be to start Karl Darlow until the club can find an adequate replacement.
Promotion is achieved by a team with a strong foundation and as long as Meslier is starting games, Leeds simply do not have that.
