Graham Smyth shares what Leeds United fans did to Jaidon Anthony in Preston North End clash
Graham Smyth has shared that Leeds United supporters were quick to stand and applaud Jaidon Anthony as he began his warm-up during the clash with Preston North End.
Daniel Farke’s side picked up a fourth consecutive win as they ran out 2-1 winners over Ryan Lowe’s Preston on Sunday (21 January) thanks to goals from Dan James and Joel Piroe after Will Keane put the visitors ahead after 70 seconds.
However, away from the action on the pitch, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth revealed that the home supporters were quick to praise substitute Anthony during his warm-up after Leeds announced the winger had lost his mother earlier this week.
Writing on his X account on Sunday (21 January) he said: “Leeds fans out on their feet to applaud Jaidon Anthony as he comes out to warm-up, alongside Sam Byram and Mateo Joseph.”
Great reception
The Leeds United fanbase are as united as any at other clubs around England and their outpouring of emotion and support to Anthony on Sunday was an excellent display of just how they will rally around a player.
Anthony’s time at Elland Road so far hasn’t been particularly special on the pitch, but that doesn’t matter in times like this and although his time at Leeds may be set to come to an end at the end of the season, he has truly been accepted by the supporters.
Hopefully, football will be able to serve as a distraction during this difficult period for the winger and he will be able to find happiness on the pitch.
He will definitely have the support of those in the stands whenever he gets onto the playing field and that will be a boost if nothing else.
