Graham Smyth shares what Ethan Ampadu did to Leeds United teammates before Watford clash

Ethan Ampadu was spotted “serenading” Glen Kamara and Sam Byram before Leeds United faced Watford at Vicarage Road on Friday (29 March).

Due to injuries, Byram was handed just his third Championship start since the start of February, while Ilia Gruev’s absence meant that Ampadu was pushed into his natural midfield position.

With Elton John’s “Your Song” booming around Vicarage Road, the Welshman was seen easing the tension by singing to his teammates ahead of kick-off.

Taking to X on Friday (29 March) Graham Smyth wrote: “Ethan Ampadu is serenading Glen Kamara and now Sam Byram – “How wonderful life is now you’re in the world.”

Unfortunately, Leeds didn’t hold much of a tune on the pitch as they were held to a 2-2 draw, Mateo Joseph rescuing a late point for the Whites.

Is Ethan Ampadu destined to be Leeds United captain?

Though only arriving at Elland Road during the summer of 2023, joining on a permanent transfer from Chelsea, Ampadu seems to have already adopted a leadership role amongst his teammates.

It is also good to see that there is no love lost between the 23-year-old and Kamara after the two faced off in midfield during Wales’ 4-1 win over Finland during the international break.

With the huge amount of pressure that the Whites are currently under, it is important to have one player who realises how to ease the tension before an all-important match and put those around him at ease in pressure situations.

Ipswich Town are also in contention to lift the Championship title, having leapfrogged Leeds with a narrow 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers on Friday.

With just seven matches of the league campaign remaining, the title race is set to come right down the wire. The draw with the Hornets was hopefully just a blip on the road to Premier League salvation.
