Graham Smyth shares Leeds United plans to honour Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure

Graham Smyth believes Leeds United will do something to honour Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure at Elland Road.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist does not see him returning to Leeds, at least in the short term.

He claims that the unceremonious exit has hurt him as it was a gruelling period away from his home in Argentina.

Smyth wrote, “I’m quite sure the club will move to mark Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure, when the time is right. As for a return visit to Leeds for Bielsa – this is just my opinion – I don’t see it.

“Not in the short term at least. Losing the job definitely hurt Bielsa and after such a long, intense period away from home, I would be stunned to see him come back in order to go through all the emotion again so soon.”

Should return

Bielsa is arguably the second greatest manager in the club’s history.

For him to be sacked without a proper send-off from the fans leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

He was loved by every end of Elland Road and the fans continue to sing his name even after Jesse Marsch has taken over at the helm.

Bielsa must be brought back, ideally for the opening game of the season at Elland Road.

Whether or not that happens next season, remains to be seen, but fans cannot have the Spurs defeat as their last memory of the Argentine.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team regular has turned down a new Elland Road contract and will sign it only under one condition.
