Graham Smyth responds as Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips is linked with Man United

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips doesn’t seem likely to join Manchester United, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.

Earlier this week, the Daily Star reported that Man United have set their sights on the £60million-rated England international, 25, after abandoning their pursuit of West Ham’s Declan Rice.

However, Smyth has suggested that while speculation about Phillips’ future at Elland Road is guaranteed, he doesn’t see the boyhood Leeds fans switching Elland Road for Old Trafford.

“There’s going to be talk about Kalvin Phillips for the foreseeable,” Smyth said via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.

“He’s an England regular and a really good footballer. Put as much stock in rumours as you like but there are some moves that feel a lot less likely than others.”

Going nowhere

We don’t feel any concerns about Phillips’ future at Leeds United.

Everyone knew how good the 25-year-old was for England at the European Championships in the summer yet there was never really any speculation about him leaving.

Of course, this story has come up now. But it’s September and we’re nowhere near a transfer window right now.

Phillips is bound to be committed to his boyhood club and he’ll still have another two years left on his contract by the time this season is over.

Plus, 90min have reported that Leeds are ready to table a new deal to the England midfielder so the chances are that he’ll be tied down at Elland Road for even longer in the near future.

Phillips is a magnificent player and one of the best at what he does in not only the Premier League but the whole of Europe.

He’s an asset to this squad and it’ll take far more than £60million for him to be sold.

In other Leeds United news, this member of Leeds’ backroom staff has left Thorp Arch in the last few days.
