Graham Smyth: Mateusz Klich in discomfort after Leeds 0-0 draw v Chelsea
Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich was spotted in discomfort after the 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
Graham Smyth pointed out the news after the clash, with the Polish international having played with an injury in recent weeks.
That appears to have continued, with Klich seeking medical attention and returning to complete the needed cool-down on the Elland Road pitch.
Writing in the Yorkshire Evening Post on Sunday, Smyth suggested that Klich could have shaken off the problem quickly.
“Mateusz Klich wore the look of a main in some discomfort as he walked straight off at full-time and down the tunnel,” he said.
“As he went, he caught the eye of one of the Leeds’ medical team and pointed to his hip area. He was soon back out on the pitch with fitness coach Benoit Delaval doing laps of the pitch as team-mates conducted their media work.”
This is becoming a real worry for the Whites.
Marcelo Bielsa has a lack of options in midfield and admitted to sacrificing the fitness of Klich in recent weeks as his performance levels clearly falter.
Jamie Shackleton returning from injury could have come at the right time for the Whites and Klich, who could be handed a couple of weeks over the international break to recover this month.
The Pole was deservedly dropped against Chelsea and was brought on for Rodrigo in the final moments. If he couldn’t get through that without discomfort, he clearly needs time away from the squad.
Hopefully, Klich can miss that upcoming break with Poland, and come back much stronger to finish off the Premier League season in style.
