Graham Smyth: Leeds planning to sell numerous U23 players, new defender wanted
Leeds United are planning a fresh recruitment drive for their under-23s side this summer, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist has reported that plenty of others could follow Olly Casey out of the exit door, with the defender set to join Blackpool.
It is reported that the Whites are open to selling numerous academy players if a decent bid with a significant release clause is included to make space.
Victor Orta is preparing to bring in many faces for the under-23s as they get ready to take on the big clubs in Premier League 2 Division 1.
It is reported that his main target area for Mark Jackson’s side is at centre-back, where Casey will be leaving a big gap.
The defender with some first-team experience is said to be open to leaving and will leave behind plenty of experience at that level that will need replacing.
Charlie Cresswell will once again lead the side forward, but it looks like he will have a new partner, although Nohan Kenneh can also fill that role.
If this season’s recruitment is half as good as our last effort, it would be an incredible window from Orta and his team.
Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville were just three of the names who arrived and lit up Thorp Arch with their scintillating talents.
With those three improving the attacking third of the pitch, there will be a clear drive to partner the likes of Cresswell and Cody Drameh with similar talents.
Marcelo Bielsa will be close to handing some of those names a step into the first-team picture should he stick around, so there will need to be a fresh influx of players in case.
This is exciting news, with our academy looking to remind everyone why we are one of the best at producing talent in the entire country.
