Graham Smyth drools over Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca

Graham Smyth has described Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca as the “signing of the season”.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist has given ratings to all the Leeds players, where Roca got 7/10.

Brenden Aaronson got the highest rating with 7.7, while Patrick Bamford scored the lowest with 5.8 only.

“Arguably the signing of the season so far, his contribution to getting Leeds up the pitch has been massive. A lovely passer of the ball and a player who operates gracefully in the middle. Likes a tackle, too,” wrote Smyth for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Roca joined the Whites in the summer transfer window from Bayern Munich on a four-year deal for an initial fee of £10m.

The Whites needed to bolster their midfield following the departure of Kalvin Phillips, but it has to be said that Roca has been a “massive” addition.

Phillips was not only a key player for the Whites but he typified a role. Leeds generally struggled in his absence, as there was hardly any flexibility in the system.

Roca has added new dynamism in the middle of the park. He is a graceful player to watch, who has been pretty consistent with his performances so far.

The likes of Aaronson, Tyler Adams, and Luis Sinisterra have grabbed attention mostly, but Roca has equally proved to be a key part of Jesse Marsch’s plans.

The 25-year-old was superb in the 3-0 win against Chelsea, and he was equally brilliant in the 1-1 against Everton.

There’s still a lot to come from him, and only time will tell whether he has been the best signing of the summer for the club.
