Graeme Souness names Leeds United as his ‘favourite team to watch’
Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness was full of praise for Leeds United after beating West Ham United 3-2 in a breath-taking game at the London Stadium.
Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play has long been known as high octane, constantly running, full-throttle football which has earned praise and criticism in equal measure.
But Souness couldn’t hide the fact that he would want to watch Leeds play every week thanks to this all-action style.
“They’re my favourite team to watch,” Souness said on Sky Sports, as quoted by James Marshment, “City are great but these are a tremendous watch.
“They are honest to a man. If you know anything – or even a little about football – you want them in the PL. If I lived anywhere but Yorkshire, I’d buy a season ticket!”
The reason for success and failure
Everything that has happened to Leeds United since Marcelo Bielsa was appointed manager can be attributed to this style of football.
When it works, it is such a difficult system and tactic to play against and it has brought the Whites great success in promotion from the Championship followed by a top ten finish in the Premier League.

Leeds have been involved in some of the Premier League’s most entertaining games since they returned to the top flight last season as a result, even if the results haven’t necessarily gone their way.
The caveat of the non-stop pressure and constant movement in training has been brought to light this season more than any as Bielsa has seen a wave of injuries ravage his squad all year.
Eight teenagers have made their Premier League debuts this season, which is an all-time record, but that is only because Bielsa has had so few senior players to choose from as they have all been broken by his demands.
Such is the pressure put on the players, it might be worth toning things down even if the football is a little less action-packed.
