Graeme Souness makes Leeds United relegation prediction live on Sky Sports after loss v Everton

Graeme Souness has admitted he isn’t sure if Leeds will avoid relegation from the Premier League this season after their defeat to Everton on Saturday.

The Whites travelled to Goodison Park but were beaten 1-0 by a freak Seamus Coleman strike in the second half, leaving Michael Skubala’s side in the relegation zone two points adrift from safety.

With no permanent manager in place and time running out, Souness told Sky Sports (19 February) following West Ham’s defeat to Spurs that he initially thought that Leeds would be able to avoid the drop but now he isn’t so sure.

“For me, looking at that, I always look at the quality of the squad and then injuries, which we’re second guessing,” he said.

“But the quality of West Ham’s squad would tell me that they’re going to get out of it.

“I think I look at Leeds, I’m not sure anymore. I thought they would have got themselves out of it.

“I look at Bournemouth, my team, where I live, I worry about them. Wolves are alarming, after a couple of good results they go and lose yesterday.

“I think West Ham will be okay. They’ll be okay.

“We’ve sat here for years and said, ‘oh they’re too good to go down.’ No one is too good to go down.”

Leeds United

Worry

It’s scary how deep in trouble we are, and that the board are seemingly doing nothing to rectify it any time soon.

After sacking Jesse Marsch it seemed like the board wanted to make a change because they were worried, but they had nobody lined up to replace him and were then rejected by a number of candidates for the role.

That’s left Skubala in a real pickle, because he has been chucked in at the deep end and there seems to be no obvious direction as to whether or not he will be in charge from one game to the next.

There seems to be no idea about who the manager will be long term, and that is no doubt affecting the performance of the players on the pitch too.

With that said, they also need to improve hugely in the coming weeks or it will be too late for whoever does eventually come in to turn things around and keep the team in the Premier League for next season.
