Graeme Souness accepts ticket for Leeds United win v Oxford, shares what he saw

Leeds United recorded a vital 1-0 win over Oxford United to continue their march towards promotion, and there were special guests in attendance.

Manor Solomon scored the only goal of the game to win all three points for Leeds, who are now potentially one game away from securing promotion from the Championship.

Leeds could seal their return to the Premier League on Monday, should they beat Stoke and Sheffield United drop more points against Burnley.

However, Graeme Souness was in attendance at the Kassam Stadium to watch Leeds win, alongside the likes of Patrick Kluivert.

Souness praises Leeds ahead of Premier League return

Although there are issues for Leeds to address if they do secure their Premier League return, there are plenty of positives to take into next season for Daniel Farke.

Souness revealed that he accepted a ticket to watch Leeds in action against Oxford, and he has now claimed that their passion could help them in the top flight.

Leeds’ recent results

“I went to take a closer look at Leeds United last night as they visited Oxford United,” he wrote in the Daily Mail Sport pages (April 19, page 5).

“I’ve enjoyed watching them on the television a number of times this season, so a friend of mine invited me to see them up close as they try to take that last step up to the big time this weekend.

“With that kind of passion on show, they will be a real asset to the Premier League.”

Leeds must fix issues to survive in Premier League

With Leeds on the verge of promotion, they will be well aware that several issues need addressing in the summer.

Leeds must sign a new goalkeeper to replace Illan Meslier in the Premier League, with the Frenchman jeopardising the promotion push on a number of occasions this season.

Although Karl Darlow has stepped up in recent weeks since stepping in, it appears unlikely that he will be given the number one shirt in the Premier League.

Despite being the Championship top scorers by some distance, Leeds will be well aware of the difficulty of that translating to the top flight, and a number nine could be on the agenda.

Farke’s future has also been questioned given the dip in form his side encountered, and the size of the task staying up next season will be.
