‘Got to be’ – Kalvin Phillips backs Leeds teammate for September award
Leeds United have enjoyed a great start to life in the Premier League after 16 years away from the top-flight.
Marcelo Bielsa has guided his side to two wins from three, with their only defeat coming with great credit against Liverpool.
The first set of monthly awards have come out, with Patrick Bamford up for Player of the Month, whereas Jack Harrison has been nominated for the Goal.
Harrison tagged Kalvin Phillips in a throwback picture to the game on his Instagram story, claiming they planned the long ball over the top before the clash.
Phillips responded, claiming that their plan worked perfectly and backed his teammate to win the Goal of the Month with ease.
“It actually worked as well.” he wrote. “Got to be goal of the month.”
Looking at the other goals nominated for the award, it will be hard for Harrison to pick up the award.
James Maddison and Riyad Mahrez’ goals from the Manchester City clash with Leicester on Sunday were both screamers, and likely to be the favourites to win.
We all know the power of Leeds fans with awards now, and it would be no surprise to see Harrison get his hands on the first trophy of the season.
Harrison has been superb, and will be a massive loss against his parent club, Man City, on Saturday – this award could brighten up his day though.
The 23-year-old had an expected goal total of only 0.09% at Anfield, so to stick his chance away shows how good of a strike it was – you know what to do Leeds fans.
