Gordon Taylor awaits response from EFL after warning on matter that could effect Leeds
PFA chief Gordon Taylor has hit out at the suggestion of a salary cap throughout the EFL, something which could have a massive effect on Leeds United.
The EFL are set for a precursor vote on the matter on Monday with the results said to be an indicator on how soon they could be introduced according to the Daily Mail.
Taylor has warned against this though, claiming it doesn’t help the so-called “well-managed” clubs who are prepared to spend more money.
Taylor shared how he is waiting for a response from EFL chairman Rick Parry on the matter after voicing his concern.
“What we are not opposed to is financial fair play, clubs revealing balance sheets, showing what they have to work with and working within clear parameters,” he told the Telegraph.
“But when we’re talking about caps for each division it moves matters to the lowest common denominator and that’s not fair on those innovative, well-managed clubs who are prepared to have a go within their means.
“Rick Parry knows our feelings on it and we’re waiting to hear back to see where we stand on it.”
It is unknown how Leeds will vote on the matter on Monday, although Andrea Radrizzani has suggested that the Elland Road wage bill has been unsustainable at times.
This would be the perfect opportunity to get out of the Championship, and Leeds are in a great spot to do that with nine games left to play.
A recent report from Deloitte revealed that there was a staggering ratio of players’ wages to turnover of 107% as pointed out by BBC journalist Dan Roan.
The financial measures aren’t as strict in the Premier League, and Leeds will have one eye on the top-flight while discussing matters with the EFL.
