Gordon Strachan lavishes praise on Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford

Leeds United legend Gordon Strachan says he is a big fan of Patrick Bamford after watching him inspire the Whites to a top-10 finish in the Premier League.

With one game left of the 2020/21 season Leeds are guaranteed to end in the top half as they sit four points clear of Aston Villa who occupy 11th spot.

Bamford has been vital for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season, scoring 16 goals and supplying seven assists, catching the eye of Strachan who waxed lyrical about him to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“There’s big plusses with Bamford, I think he’s been absolutely terrific,” he said,

“To lead the line, do so much work and do so much work when the other team’s got the ball and still have the ability to score goals, run the width of the 18-yard box and take knocks, I like him.”

Class recognise class

Strachan is a Leeds legend who captained the Whites to league titles so when he speaks, we listen.

Not that we needed convincing over just how good Bamford is, but hearing he has Strachan’s seal of approval is music to our ears.

Bamford really does have it all as the ex-Scotland manager suggests.

He’s quick, mobile, and tough to get off the ball with unnerving accuracy in front of goal.

But one of his most endearing traits is his selfless attitude to the side, working hard to track back or choosing to pass to his teammate instead of shooting.

These are qualities that are absolute requirements under Bielsa who refuses to pet people’s egos.

Everyone knows their role under El Loco and Bamford is no different. He might be 27-year’s-old but we think there’s more to come from the striker.
