'Good friend' of Victor Orta confirms Leeds tried to sign 23y/o

Rangers’ sporting director Ross Wilson has revealed that although he shares a good relationship with Victor Orta, he had no intention of selling Ryan Kent to Leeds United in the summer.

Kent, 23, has been in good form at Ibrox this season, scoring five goals and supplying five assists in 17 appearances across all competitions.

He was the subject of a lot of transfer speculation in the summer when Leeds reportedly tabled an offer worth £10million for the ex-Liverpool winger.

Rangers chief Wilson has now spoken out about Kent and the speculation surrounding his future at Ibrox.

He has backed up a previous statement by Leeds’ director of football Orta and re-iterated a hands-off warning.

“The two guys you mentioned, Kent and Morelos, you’re right there was a lot of noise,” Wilson said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“Victor Orta is the sporting director at Leeds United and somebody I respect and is a good friend of mine.

“He’s already spoken about Ryan Kent and said Rangers made it very clear he wasn’t for sale and that would be true because it was never in our plans that he would leave Rangers. That was clear.”

Rangers don’t want to sell Kent, that is clear.

He’s done very well at Ibrox this season so speculation linking him with a move away from the Scottish Premiership is bound to crop up.

Kent’s a young, English player who’s in good form in a top-tier league.

But do Leeds need him now?

Marcelo Bielsa and Orta managed to sign Brazilian winger Raphinha from Rennes in a deal worth £17million last month.

He is a similar type of player to Kent as he’s very good on the ball, likes to cut inside, can score and assist goals and is very pacey.

We wouldn’t be shocked to see Kent linked with Leeds again in the future because his name seems to crop up in every single transfer window while Bielsa’s been in charge.

But at this moment in time, the Whites simply don’t need another wide player.
