Gerrard delivers two-word response after he confirms Leeds bid for Rangers winger Ryan Kent

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that a Leeds United bid – reported to be for £10m – was tabled but he’s delivered a withering response.

The Rangers manager has said it is “nowhere near” their valuation of the player.

His verdict was posted by the Clyde 1 Superscoreboard Twitter account on Friday morning.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon had reported that Leeds had tabled a £10m bid but tweeted later to say that the Whites would need to improve it if they wanted to land their player.

Nowhere near?

The transfer market can be an extremely infuriating place.

Rangers paid £6.5m for Kent last summer and he went on to score seven goals in the 19/20 Premiership.

That’s not a bad return but it’s hardly the sort of numbers that justify a doubling of his valuation.

If Gerrard is saying £10m is “nowhere near” then Leeds should just move on.

Kent has hit the ground running this season, with two goals in the first four games for Rangers.

But this is the Premiership and the Premier League is a completely different proposition. We’re not even convinced that Kent would be a starter for Leeds, with Jack Harrison seemingly nailed on for the left-wing spot and plenty of options on the right.

We also don’t think Kent is in the same league as players like Said Benrahma, who Leeds have been linked with, and Gerrard might just have priced his winger out of a dream move – although that might have been his intention all along.
