German media destroy Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson for sinful start with Union Berlin
German media has already slammed Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson for his “lousy” start to the season with Union Berlin.
The 23-year-old left Elland Road on a temporary deal this summer having struggled with the Whites as they were relegated from the Premier League, only scoring once after being signed by Jesse Marsch for £24.7 million [Sky Sports].
Things haven’t got much better for the USMNT midfielder since making the switch to the Bundesliga, where he is still waiting for his first goal for Union Berlin and the Leeds loanee has felt plenty of criticism from both supporters and the media.

German outlet Fussball Transfers (31 October) gave Aaronson a 5/10 rating, also writing: “Aaronson was also once sinfully expensive. For 33 million, it went from Salzburg to Leeds United in 2022. After the Premier League relegation, Union grabs the flexible offensive man on loan.
“So far, however, Aaronson has turned out to be too narrow on the chest for the intense and body-hugging Union game. After eleven bets, there is still no scorer point.”
Not going well
Leeds United will have hoped that Aaronson’s temporary exit would have helped the midfielder rediscover the form that made him such a talent during his time with RB Salzburg, but so far it doesn’t seem like his spell with Union Berlin is going as hoped.
The 23-year-old’s value will have decreased massively during the Whites’ Premier League relegation season and the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga and the Champions League provided him with the perfect opportunity to put himself back in the shop window.

For Leeds, it would make selling him permanently much easier following the conclusion of his time in Berlin, or if he returned in excellent form there is every chance that he may well be able to return to Elland Road and find a role in Daniel Farke’s side.
Instead, he is more than likely going to return to Leeds in worse form than he departed in, should his season continue to go as poorly as suggested by the German media. Even when he is away from Elland Road and out of sight, Aaronson is proving to be one of the worst transfer mistakes of the Andrea Radrizzani era.
It’s hard to see any way back for the 23-year-old following the conclusion of his loan spell in Germany.
