Georginio Rutter to be exposed in Premier League as brutal Leeds United star verdict emerges
Leeds United striker Georginio Rutter will be exposed in the Premier League if Daniel Farke’s side win promotion from the Championship this season, according to Chris Dunlavy
The Whites currently sit third in the Championship following their disappointing draw with Huddersfield Town on Saturday (2 March), two points behind second-placed Ipswich Town and five off of league leaders Leicester.
Rutter has been a key part of Farke’s side at Elland Road, scoring six goals and picking up 11 assists in 34 matches, but Football League Paper journalist Dunlavy believes a mixture of a “bulldozer and ballerina” isn’t ready for the Premier League.
Writing in the Football League Paper on Sunday (3 March, page nine) he said: “The 21-year-old is a street footballer in the body of a heavyweight boxer, a mixture of bulldozer and ballerina whose first instinct is to forge a direct path to goal.
“It’s high risk, high reward. In the Premier League, those early errors would have been ruthlessly punished, the game long gone. It’s why Rutter barely got a kick last season – and why promotion would be a year too soon.
“He has used the Championship to find his feet and to demonstrate he has the raw materials to become a very good player. But rough edges remain, and they will be exposed at the highest level.”
Will Leeds United be able to keep Georginio Rutter at Elland Road in the summer transfer window?
It seems ridiculous to already be writing Rutter off as a failure in the Premier League before the Whites have even won promotion back to the top flight this season, especially considering his excellent form this season.
The Frenchman has been a revelation in the Championship and while he did struggle in the Premier League last time out, he has grown immensely as a player under Farke’s management and he is already a much better player.

He does still make too many errors and he is chaotic on the ball, but that sort of chaos is what makes him such a threat as defenders never know what to expect when he has the ball at his feet and is driving at a backline.
Whether he makes the step up to the Premier League with ease remains to be seen, but his entire focus at the moment has to be on helping Leeds United book their place in the Championship’s automatic promotion places.
