Georginio Rutter sums up Leeds United reunion perfectly with one word
Georginio Rutter was all smiles as his Brighton and Hove Albion side saw off Leeds United on Saturday.
Former fan favourite Rutter spoke glowingly about former side Leeds in the build-up to the match at the Amex Stadium.
Brighton ran out 3-0 winners against Leeds in what was a hugely disappointing day for Daniel Farke and his side.
Rutter impressed for Brighton as he was taken off in the second half, with the Frenchman having bragging rights over a number of his former colleagues.
However, while it would have been easy for Rutter to gloat after the match, he took a far more balanced approach.
Georginio Rutter speaks out on Leeds after Brighton win
Rutter made a point of applauding Leeds fans after the match, with that gesture going a long way to those who made the trip.
The attacking midfielder was asked after the game if he’d given away any secrets on how to play Leeds, but rightly pointed out this current side is different to the one he departed.
And speaking to Leeds Live, Rutter summed up the day nicely as he said it was “strange” playing against the Whites.
“I think today, we managed the game very good,” Rutter said. “I saw everybody before and after the game. It was a bit strange, I don’t want to lie – but it’s football.”
Rutter did not directly contribute to any goals in Saturday’s contest, with Diego Gomez scoring twice after Danny Welbeck had opened the scoring early on.

The former France Under-21s international played 93 minutes in total before being replaced by Nehemiah Oriola.
Brighton 3-0 Leeds stats in full
Farke could not cloud over what was a pretty dire performance from his Leeds side on the South Coast – as is the norm away at Brighton.
Leeds found the target from two of their five shots, compared to eight and 17 respectively for Brighton – three of those ending in the net, of course.
| Brighton | Leeds | |
| 17 | Shots | 5 |
| 8 | Shots on target | 2 |
| 51 | Possession | 49 |
| 462 | Passes | 358 |
| 10 | Fouls | 7 |
Possession was split near enough down the middle, but it is about what you do with the ball. Put simply, Leeds did not do enough with it.
Leeds are back in action next Sunday with a trip to Nottingham Forest, with what a truly massive game already now despite it being so early in the season.
Let’s just hope these next seven days present a chance to put the Brighton setback to one side ahead of that Forest showdown.
