Georginio Rutter sends ‘painful’ message to Leeds United fans amid injury update

Georginio Rutter has sent a message to Leeds United fans after the club announced the forward requires surgery during the international break.

It is reported, as per the club’s official website, that the Frenchman is set to undergo a minor procedure on a hernia problem, which could still see him return for the Watford clash on Friday 29 March.

Rutter has been instrumental to the Whites’ success this season, registering seven goals and 18 assists in all competitions, cementing himself as one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s teamsheet.

Taking to Instagram after his surgery was announced on Monday (18 March), Rutter wrote: “Hi everyone. Important victory yesterday – thank you for the support.

“But I wanted to tell you that, after a few painful weeks, I tried to give everything until the end for the team, but my body told me to stop. I hope to help the team as quickly as possible – see you soon.”

How important is Georginio Rutter to Leeds United in the Championship title race?

Despite an incredibly tough start to life at Elland Road, having signed on for a club-record fee during Leeds’ relegation season from the Premier League, Rutter has turned from zero to hero. [BBC Sport]

Not only has the forward become a vital part of Farke’s plans this season, but he has also emerged as a fan favourite. Of course, his form has helped significantly, but Rutter connects with the fans on a different level to many.

He shares the same passion as those in the stands, and it is always evident in the post-match tunnel shots. That contagious energy could have been a huge miss, should his injury have been a serious one.

Luckily, for Leeds, Rutter could be back before the Watford clash, which could be extremely important after the Whites were able to topple Leicester City from the top of the Championship table.

The 2-0 win over Millwall on Sunday 17 March, while the Foxes fell to a defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup, saw Leeds go level on points with Leicester to put all the pressure on Enzo Maresca’s men for the season’s run-in.

In other Leeds United news, an international manager has made a “100 per cent” prediction about a Whites regular after what he has seen this season.
