Georginio Rutter earns spot in EFL Team of the Week with Swansea City display

Georginio Rutter has earned a spot in EFL’s Team of the Week following his match-winning performance during Leeds United versus Swansea City on Wednesday night (29 November).

The forward was awarded Man of the Match for his display against Swansea, smashing home Leeds’ second goal of the game on the stroke of half-time.

The 21-year-old then set up Dan James for some icing on the cake for the Whites, completing the comeback and claiming all three points.

From zero to hero

Following some poor showings in the Premier League last season, starting just one game, Rutter has hit the ground running under Daniel Farke. His inexperience in the division saw him appear 11 times, tallying up just 264 minutes.

His total number of goal contributions, with four goals and seven assists, is only bettered by Crysencio Summerville and Dan James.

The first half of Leeds v Swansea was a tough watch, even despite the three goals and the Whites leading at the break.

But Rutter’s goal was a moment of genius, a shining light on a gloomy night at Elland Road. It was also a smart assist for James to smash Leeds’ third into the roof of Carl Rushworth’s goal.

Rutter is a totally different player this season, having finally found his feet and a run of games in the side. He is now one of the first names on the team sheet and has quickly become a fan-favourite, with his performance against Swansea just more proof of his raw talent and natural ability.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay reports that a possible Whites contract offer is certain to be rejected by one youngster.
