George Elek stunned by Charlie Cresswell for Leeds v Fulham

Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa are going through yet another injury crisis as things stand at Elland Road.

That didn’t stop the Whites from progressing in the Carabao Cup against Fulham on Tuesday evening in an impressive win on penalties.

With numerous defenders out, the door opened for Charlie Cresswell and the academy skipper grabbed his chance with both hands.

George Elek was stunned watching his performance, especially the fact he played 45 minutes at each side of the defence.

Speaking on Quest’s highlight show as shared on Twitter, the EFL pundit labelled his performance as “amazing.”

“Leeds fans are very, very excited about this guy,” he said.

“Played half of the game on the right-hand side, half of it on the left-hand side and most passes completed, most duels won in the game.

“Given Leeds’ issues at centre-back, well-publicised issues in terms of injuries and suspensions, it looks as if he could be fast-tracking his way into Leeds’ first team.

“Amazing performance from him.”

It remains to be seen whether Cresswell will make his Premier League debut against West Ham, but Bielsa may be left with no choice.

Luke Ayling stepped in at Newcastle, but his injury could open the door for the academy captain to stake his claim alongside Liam Cooper.

One thing for sure is that he couldn’t wish for a harder test.

Michail Antonio has been rested for two games and will be coming to Elland Road all guns blazing to continue his phenomenal start to the season.

There aren’t many forwards more physical than the Jamaican international, and if Cresswell can keep him quiet, it would be hard to keep him out, no matter who returns from injury.

Bielsa’s team news will be coming up shortly, and we should learn if the door has remained open for Premier League action, or whether or not Cresswell will be made to wait.
