Gary Rowett uncertain future could mean Charlie Cresswell returns to Leeds United
Gary Rowett is understood to be very keen on the vacant manager’s position at West Brom – and that could see Leeds United recall Charlie Cresswell from his loan at The Den.
Former Birmingham Mail journalist Chris Lepkowski suggested (The Liquidator podcast,11 October, 9m50s) that Rowett is “very interested” in the job at The Hawthorns.
If the Millwall manager does depart South London it could go one of two ways for 20-year-old Cresswell. The youngster has found himself out of proceedings under Rowett of late, due to a change of formation that is being deployed.

The former Birmingham manager’s departure could either see Cresswell given more game time, which is exactly what he needs at this point of his career or he could remain on the periphery of proceedings.
It’s hardly an ideal situation at the moment for Leeds and Cresswell, and it would not be a shock to see the youngster recalled to avoid the potential turmoil that could ensue if Rowett does leave The Den.
Cresswell’s loan does have a recall option (Sky Sports’ Time Thornton, GIVEMESPORT, 10 October) which can be activated by the Whites.

However, there could also be a reluctance to call the youngster back to Elland Road with Leeds potentially in line for a payment from Millwall should he not feature as much as they want (The Athletic journalist Phil Hay, 20 September).
With the World Cup coming up and the January window not too long after, a decision on Cresswell’s current arrangement in South London will need to be made. It’s absolutely essential that he is playing regular first-team football to give him the best chance of making an impact for Leeds in the future.
In other Leeds United news, an unexpected exit could be on the cards at Leeds after what happened in the Premier League on Friday.
