Gary Neville says Leeds United ‘on the floor’, expecting slug fest in relegation battle
Gary Neville is expecting a ‘slugfest’ at the bottom of the Premier League in the final weeks of the season, and says Leeds United are ‘on the floor after defeat to Arsenal.
The Whites fell into the relegation zone over the weekend after they were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, while Everton picked up all three points with a win over Leicester at the same time.
With just three games to go in the campaign, Neville told his podcast that he doesn’t know what’s going to happen in the battle against the drop but he feels Jesse Marsch’s side have got the feel of a club that could go down.
“I thought Burnley would start to get out of it, I thought Watford would start to get more points but that’s not emerged,” he said.
“I didn’t think Everton would drop as far as they have, but they do have that feeling of a club that definitely could go down. It’s happening before our eyes.
“It’s going to be a slugfest, this last couple of weeks. It really is. Because all of them are on the floor really.
“All of them are on the floor and they’re just trying to get up, it’s that type of, sort of, world that they’re in and we don’t really know what’s going to happen. It’s compelling down there, it really is.”

Hope
Leeds had hope prior to the recent run of games, where they’ve now gone three games without a win while Burnley and Everton have found form at the perfect time.
Despite that though, they have got a chance with just goal difference separating themselves and the Clarets while Everton are just one point ahead although they have a game in hand.
The performances have been good despite the scorelines and it’s only form of other sides that have really caused them trouble, as well as the batterings earlier in the season coming back to haunt them.
Neville’s claim that he can see relegation in the club’s future is worrying, but also hopefully tinted with a bit of bias because of his Manchester United roots.
Overall though, Leeds need one last swing before the end of the season and they need to take advantage of it otherwise they can kiss goodbye to the Premier League.
