Gary Neville makes new Leeds United relegation prediction, it centres on one thing

Gary Neville has made it clear that Leeds United certainly have what it takes to stay in the Premier League.

Leeds’ 3-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday has revived the belief at Elland Road that the Peacocks have a fighting chance.

Daniel Farke has come under pressure after a run of four straight defeats, although the victory over Chelsea could mark a real turning point in the season.

The result leaves the Peacocks 17th in the table, and with Wolves and Burnley looking increasingly likely to go down, the final spot in the bottom three will be fought out with West Ham as things stand.

Leeds are expected to avoid relegation by Opta’s supercomputer, and Neville also believes that they have enough in attack to secure Premier League safety.

Gary Neville backs Leeds’ strikers to secure Premier League safety

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has faced criticism for his poor form, although he has improved in recent weeks, while Lukas Nmecha is thriving since coming into the starting lineup.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast on 4 December, the ex-Man United defender explained that the two strikers will be crucial to Leeds’ fate in the top flight.

He said: “I think that Leeds lineup that started against Chelsea, if they can all stay fit with those two up front, I think they could be safe.

“From what I’ve seen, I think they slightly edge West Ham.”

The worry for supporters is that both Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha have terrible injury records, and they have struggled with fitness throughout their careers.

Farke has changed Leeds’ formation to a 3-5-2, and both strikers played off each other brilliantly in the win on Wednesday.

Leeds were in desperate need of another top-quality striker in the summer transfer window, and despite initial doubts over their quality, Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha could have what it takes to fire the Peacocks to safety.

Leeds face Liverpool on Saturday, and a win against the reigning champions could continue this push towards safety.

Why December could hold key to Leeds’ safety

Leeds will be buoyed by their most recent win, and they’ll never be more confident of beating a struggling Liverpool than they are at the moment.

After Saturday’s mouth-watering clash, the Peacocks face Brentford, Crystal Palace and Sunderland, representing a massive chance to pick up some points ahead of a tough start to 2026

With 14 points from as many matches, Farke’s side are just shy of reaching the 40-point mark on average.

However, with the German manager seemingly finding an effective formula, Leeds’ ambitions for the season could come down to their results in December.
