Gary Neville laughs at Sam Allardyce live on Sky Sports after ‘perfect’ Leeds United headline

Gary Neville has laughed at Sam Allardyce’s claim he’s as good as Pep Guardiola in his first press conference as the Leeds United manager.

Big Sam’s first game in charge of Leeds will be against title-chasing Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon (6 May).

Ahead of that game, Allardyce caused a stir by saying he’s “up there” with and “as good as” the likes of Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta [BBC Sport].

While commentating on Man City versus West Ham, Neville couldn’t hide that he found Allardyce’s comments funny.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on Wednesday night (3 May, 08:04pm), Neville said: “I did have to laugh at his interview before where he said he’s as good as Klopp, Pep and Arteta.”

Neville then audibly laughed before adding: “He gave the media the perfect headline.”

Embarrassing

Why did Big Sam say that?

You cannot argue with his experience in the game and the fact that he used to lead some great teams, such as the Bolton side that boasted some of the best Premier League talents in the 2000s.

But to compare yourself now to Champions League-winning managers and those who are very much at the top of their game right now in the Premier League?

Have a day off, Sam.

Allardyce isn’t as good as those managers but he’s probably better suited to managing a team in the bottom four of the Premier League than they are.

Is that what he’s getting at? Either way, he’s embarrassed himself a bit with that comment because it’s already been shared far and wide across the world with many finding it hilarious that the Englishman would do such a thing.

Leeds have one aim now and that’s to stay in the Premier League.

With Allardyce in the dug-out, our chances are better, to be fair.

In other Leeds United news, Leeds are ready to put £14million on the table to sign this player.
