Gary Neville delivers Leeds United-Dan James verdict

Gary Neville has delivered his verdict on Dan James’ deadline day move from Manchester United to Leeds United.

The former Red Devils man, speaking to Sky Sports, believes the 23-year-old Wales international could light up Elland Road with his physical attributes.

“It’s really good for Dan James,” Neville said. “It’s one of those where this is a win-win. He came to [Manchester] United and always did his very best, he was a massive threat on the counter-attack, but they have a lot of players in those areas.

“It’s really important for young players to go and play, and Leeds have always wanted him. They wanted him the first time around when [Manchester] United got him instead.

“He’ll suit the way they play with such pace on the counter-attack. He’ll love it there, the crowd’s a big crowd, a club that demands a lot.

“It’s a good thing for [Manchester] United to get the money they did, and good for Dan to further his career at a good club.”

Excite Elland Road

There may be a section of supporters who feel slightly underwhelmed by the signing of James given the names that have were linked with the club earlier in the summer and last year.

In 2020, Rodrigo De Paul was the big name on the lips of many while the likes of Noa Lang, Matheus Cunha and Mikkel Damsgaard were reported to be interesting the Whites this time around.

Those three attackers are younger and have higher reputations at the moment as well as scoring more goals.

James, meanwhile, played just 15 times in the Premier League last season and became a peripheral figure at Old Trafford, though he did start two of their games at the start of this season with injuries and fitness keeping others out.

The jury is out on whether James can add more goals and assists to his name, but one thing fans can certainly expect is pace and excitement down the wings.

In other Leeds United news, Gary Lineker was blown away by video footage he’s seen of this Elland Road ace.
