Gary Neville delivers instant reaction to Leeds PL promotion
Gary Neville has delivered his instant verdict to Leeds United winning promotion back to the Premier League.
The Whites secured their top flight status for next season after West Brom lost to Huddersfield Town on Thursday evening after a 16-year absence from the division.
Neville was on commentary duty for West Ham’s relegation battle with Watford (Sky Sports Premier League, 8pm, July 17th) just minutes after that result was confirmed, and it’s fair to say that he was less than happy with the outcome.
When asked his opinion on the Whites’ promotion by Martin Tyler, the ex-Manchester United favourite groaned, before saying: “Season of death, this one.”
Neville was presumably also making reference to another of United’s bitterest rivals, Liverpool, getting their hands on the Premier League this term as well.
What a night – we’re back in the top flight and we’ve gotten under Gary Neville’s skin too.
Joking aside, Neville will know, as we all do, that the Premier League will be a better place for having Leeds in it.
Football is built on rivalries, and there is no better buzz than coming up against the Manchester Uniteds and Liverpools of this world.
Now that we have Marcelo Bielsa at the helm too, there’s no reason to believe that we can’t mix it with the biggest clubs in the country and do alright for ourselves too.
Of course, there will be a big summer of speculation ahead, and there will be plenty of time to feel the nerves and pressure that comes with a Premier League spot, but right now, everybody associated with Leeds can relax and enjoy a truly great moment in this wonderful club’s history.
