Gary Neville argues over Leeds prediction as Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright come to agreement
Leeds United’s return to the Premier League has prompted plenty of discussions over the last few months.
The Whites are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the country, and their presence in the top flight always causes a stir.
There was uncertainty surrounding Daniel Farke’s future at Elland Road earlier in the summer, but everybody now appears to be pulling in the same direction as the new campaign is just days away.
The West Yorkshire outfit open their season at home to Everton on Monday night, and will be desperate to get up and running with a win.

Carragher and Wright agree that the Whites will survive
Jamie Carragher has praised Leeds’ transfer business, as a result of their intention to sign players with imposing physical attributes in order to tackle the physicality of the Premier League.
The Sky Sports pundit has now made a prediction that will delight the Whites faithful, and it also prompted agreement from Ian Wright.
Speaking on the latest Stick To Football podcast (14 August, 45:40), the duo were having a discussion with their fellow hosts about the fortunes of the three newly-promoted teams for the upcoming campaign.
The panel were going over their ‘hot takes’ for the new Premier League season, and Carragher revealed that he thinks the Whites will have what it takes to beat the drop this term.
Wright agreed that Leeds would stay up, but their stance drew disbelief from Gary Neville, who argued that their suggestions were far from the “outlandish” predictions that were intended to come from the conversation.
Leeds need a strong start
A strong start to the new Premier League campaign is a must for Leeds if they are to buck the trend of newly-promoted sides failing to compete in the top flight.
Home (Date) | Away (Date) |
Everton (18 August) | Arsenal (23 August) |
Newcastle (30 August) | Fulham (13 September) |
Bournemouth (27 September) | Wolves (20 September) |
Tottenham (4 October | Burnley (18 October) |
West Ham (25 October) | Brighton (1 November) |
The Whites will be desperate to break the cycle of promoted teams suffering an immediate relegation back to the Championship, with all six of the last teams to come up going straight back down.
Farke’s men have plenty of winnable fixtures in the early stages of the season, with clashes against Wolves, Burnley, West Ham and Fulham all coming within their opening 10 games.
If they can get a strong start under their belts, it could provide the boost that they need to push on and book their place in the Premier League for next year.
