Gary Lineker reacts to 2-1 Leeds United loss v Manchester City after what he saw
BBC presenter Gary Lineker lavished praise on Manchester City’s performance following their 2-1 win over Leeds United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday [6 May].
The Whites began their four-game tenure under Sam Allardyce in disappointing fashion following his official appointment as Javi Gracia’s replacement on Wednesday [4 May].
Two goals from Ilkay Gundogan strengthened City’s position at the top of the Premier League table but deepened Leeds United’s relegation fears despite Rodrigo’s late consolation, currently sitting level with 18th-paced Nottingham Forest only separated by goal difference.
And taking to his personal Twitter account [6 May] reacting to the game, Lineker was rather impressed by the performance of Manchester City as Leeds United struggled to cope with their attacking intent.
He tweeted: “Not getting sucked into the brainwashing but Manchester City are pretty good.”
Tough
The one positive Allardyce can take from their defeat to a rampant City side was that they were able to keep the scoreline down to just 2-1, considering the number of chances their opponents missed. Though, Rodrigo’s goal in the closing minutes provided something to shout about.
Erling Haaland certainly had an off day on Saturday, and on another day could well have scored a hat-trick but for some uncharacteristic finishing which will have given the Leeds United players some relief, especially without their key defender Robin Koch who was left out before the game.

The Whites weren’t expected to get anything in Manchester but when you’re down at the bottom facing such difficult circumstances, every point is crucial.
However, with the remaining games Leeds United have got in the coming weeks, it’s hard to see where their next crucial three points are coming from.
The Whites face Newcastle (H), West Ham United (A) and Tottenham Hotspur (H) in their remaining fixtures – three incredibly difficult tasks for Allardyce and his men, but certainly not impossible.
Anything can happen in the Premier League and that is the mantra Leeds United and their new manager will be living by in these remaining games.
