Gary Lineker left stunned live on BBC after Leeds clip during Liverpool v Arsenal

Gary Lineker was left stunned by Patrick Bamford as Leeds United defeated Peterborough United 3-0 in the FA Cup Third Round on Sunday 7 January.

The Whites forward has struggled for game time this season under Daniel Farke but had no trouble at all chesting down a lofted ball before firing in a beautiful volley from the best part of 25 yards.

The BBC pundit team reacted to the highlights at half-time of the match between Liverpool and Arsenal, picking out Bamford’s goal as one of the best moments from a plethora of FA Cup ties.

“Oh, what a beauty to make it 2-0,” Lineker said live on BBC One on Sunday (7 January, 5:29 pm).

Danny Murphy added: “They’re the ones you want on your showreel.”

He’s still got it

The technique on show as Bamford volleyed home a stunner to take the air out of Peterborough’s sails was breathtaking. But it comes as no surprise from a striker who has performed throughout his six-year stay at Elland Road.

The FA Cup goal was just one of his 53 goals for Leeds, adding to his assist tally too, chesting a ball down in the penalty area for Ethan Ampadu to poke home his first goal on the day, who also captained the team.

With Farke choosing to field a second-string attacking lineup, dropping the likes of Dan James, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, it was vital that the 30-year-old proved to his manager exactly why he should not just be warming the substitute bench.

Bamford still has a lot to offer at the club, despite only having one league start to his name this campaign. Joel Piroe and Rutter have been shining at Elland Road so far, leaving little to no space for the veteran.

However, his display against The Posh in the FA Cup was a little message to Farke, just giving a little nudge with a difficult season ahead, vying for promotion back to the Premier League.
