Gary Lineker delivers verdict on Leeds v Leicester after 4-1 defeat for Whites

Gary Lineker described Leicester’s win over Leeds United as “bloody brilliant” after a 4-1 victory with a much-weakened team.

Leeds played terribly in the first-half as Leicester raced to a 2-0 lead, with goals from Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans.

However, a fluke from Stuart Dallas got Leeds back into it on 48 minutes. He hit a cross from outside the box that missed everyone and flew past Kasper Schmeichel to give Leeds a lifeline.

They looked the most likely to score from that point and Pablo Hernandez almost got them level with a moment of genius.

He picked the ball up outside the box and curled a beautiful shot that hit the corner of the bar and the upright.

Two late Leicester goals gave Rodgers the win and saw his side climb to second in the table.

Writing on Twitter after the game, Lineker said, “Marvellous win for the mighty @LCFC. Considering the players missing through injury it was bloody brilliant.”

Leicester deserved the points but Leeds unlucky

Leicester had been hit with a number of injuries ahead of the game, with their defence being hardest hit.

Given that, they put in an excellent performance last night and we take our hat off to Brendan Rodgers.

In Jamie Vardy, he’s got possibly the best counter-attacking striker in the world to work with.

His pace was way too much for the Leeds defence and Leicester deserved to win the game, although we do think 4-1 was too harsh on the Whites.

Leicester’s first goal came from a mistake from Robin Koch straight after Patrick Bamford should have given Leeds the lead.

And Leeds were unlucky in the second half, dominating the first 30 minutes of the half before being hit twice by Leicester late on.

It’s Palace away next on Saturday and Marcelo Bielsa will have to pick his players up for a game where Wilfried Zaha will provide the pace and trickery to deal with up top.
